W Taipei is the leading design-led luxury hotel in Taiwan which has cooperated with Taiwan Design Center (TDC) on different projects to explore the cross-over opportunities of design. This May, W Taipei worked with TDC again on Creative Expo Taiwan 2015, the biggest lifestyle, cultural & creative event in the Chinese Society, and launched a “W Lounge” at ShonShang Cultural Park featuring the sneak peak of the latest stylish sustainability project by W Hotels Worldwide and EKOCYCLE and the previous W Taipei design series projects. It had showcased the soft power of Taiwan Design onto the international platform.
The “2014 FOOD RE-DESIGN” project featured nine top Taiwanese designers who adopted the innovative topic, used W Taipei’s “the kitchen table” as the stage of their creativity, and collaborated with the Executive Chef of W Taipei to put creative design proposals for utensils, space, and dining style, injecting more local Taiwanese elements and culture into the Western restaurant. W Taipei announced 2 products by Lance Han (W tableware) and Kevin Chou (W the chopsticks) which are expected to be purchased by the hotel as the hotel restaurant tableware in the near future. In 2013, "TRASH RE-DESIGN" transformed used plastic items, such as water bottles at W Taipei, into green materials with the sustainability expertise from Miniwiz. W Taipei had placed an order at more than TWD2,000,000 of the final selected products: Jewelry Holder by Fanny Kuo and Pinball by Wanting Liao which can be used/purchased at the hotel as in-room guest experience amenities and weeding banquet giveaways. The project had also implemented the successful green initiative to W Hotels in Asia Pacific and participated “Business of Design Week” sponsored by W Hong Kong in 2014. Through the W Hotels Worldwide in-room TV channel, the designers have demonstrated Taiwan's design, a soft power of Taiwan, to the world. CLICK HERE to learn more.
